Hello, my name is Scott McArthur. I am a Senior Support Escalation Engineer in the Windows group and today’s blog will cover a common question we get involving product keys. Many times you may have a product key but you need to find out what type of key it is. We will use the VAMT 2.0 tool to accomplish this task. VAMT 2.0 can decode the following types of keys:

  • MAK keys
  • KMS keys
  • Retail keys
  • OEM keys

To determine what type of key you have do the following:

1. Download the Volume Activation Management Tool (VAMT) 2.0 and install it

2. Click Start, All Programs, VAMT 2.0, Volume Activation Management Tool 2.0

3. Click the Product Keys option

Figure 1. VAMT 2.0

4. Enter your Product Key then click Verify.

5. VAMT 2.0 will connect to the internet and verify what type of key you have. For example(I removed my product keys)

Hi,
Check with the router maker's support and most have excellent on-line documentation and forums.
You should be able to access the router to set a new SSID and password if needed.
You would need to know the SSID (Router name) and the password.
If you do not know these you can recover them from the system running on the WiFi now with this
free tool. This is not a crack, it has to be run on a local computer that has access (or had access)
to your router. Of course that information will not be there if Windows was re-installed or the information
was otherwise removed.
WirelessKeyView - FREE - recovers all wireless network security keys/passwords (WEP/WPA) stored
in your computer by the 'Wireless Zero Configuration' service of Windows XP and by the 'WLAN AutoConfig'
service of Windows Vista. It allows you to easily save all keys to text/html/xml file, or copy a single key to the
clipboard. (Works on XP, Vista, or Windows 7.)

Hope this helps.
